AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
These aftercare instructions are for fine line tattoos done at Irka Tattoo studio in Helsinki, Finland. I use a Suprasorb F bandage that protects the tattoo during the initial healing phase. Follow the steps below to get the best possible result from your new tattoo.
Days 1–3: Keep the bandage on
After your session at the studio, I apply a Suprasorb F bandage — a breathable polyurethane film that protects the tattoo while it begins to heal. Keep the bandage on for 3 full days. No additional aftercare is needed during this time. You can take a quick shower, but avoid soaking the area. The tattoo may look blurry or slightly dirty under the film — this is completely normal. Wear loose clothing over the bandaged area to prevent irritation.
Day 3: Remove the bandage
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the tattoo. Gently peel off the Suprasorb F film. Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, hypoallergenic soap — nothing with fragrance or harsh chemicals. Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel (not a regular towel) and let it air dry for about 15 minutes.
Days 3–10: Moisturize regularly
After removing the bandage, apply a thin layer of healing ointment such as shea butter or Bepanthen 3–4 times a day for the next 7 days. Always wash your hands before touching the tattoo. The skin may feel tight or start to peel — do not pick or scratch it.
Weeks 2–4: Continue care
Switch to moisturizing once a day for the following 3 weeks. Keep using a fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid sauna, swimming pools, and bathtubs for the first few weeks — showers are fine. These precautions apply regardless of the season here in Finland, where sauna is part of daily life.
Long-term care
Once healed, apply SPF 50+ sunscreen on the tattoo whenever it is exposed to sunlight. Regular moisturizing keeps fine lines sharp and the skin healthy. If you have any concerns during healing, feel free to reach out — I am always happy to help.
